 Floods In The Country.

Various parts of the country are being affected by floods and mudslides. This due to the increase in the rainfall which the country has been experiencing which has also led to an increase of water levels in the various lakes and rivers.

In Dokolo district, over 15000 families were left homeless due to the massive rains experienced in the area. Houses were shuttered down and gardens where destroyed making people homeless and  unable to access food.

The state minister for relief and disaster Ms. Lillian Aber said that  government was unable to deliver any assistance to dokolo flood victims urgently because the heavy duty trucks used in delivering relief aid were sent to Karamoja sub region which is facing a similar crisis.

In Bukedea district on Friday, a Kakis bus traveling from Mbale to Soroti district plunged into Kachumbala bridge. This incident happened in Nyakoi village in Kwarikwar sub county.

No deaths were registered and the police in Kwarikwar sub country managed to secure another  bus which was used to transport the passagers to their final locations.

In Kasese district, mudslides claimed over 13 lives and the kasese deputy RDC overseeing , Bukonzo country , confirmed  at around 3pm that 9 bodies had been  retrieved at different locations affected by mudslides.

These included areas like Muwanza village in Kyarumba sub country one person died and Kayheme village where three lost lives.

The claimed lives in Bumbahya village , Kyondo sub country and  another one resident in Kanyatsi village , Nyakabingo sub county.

Another Victim in Kanyatsi village who was identified as Alice Mbambu 30 years of age and a mother of three died after her house collapsing.

‘‘We initially thought that we could save her life, people came in big numbers and we tired to retrieve her from the debris however by the time we got to her , she had already died.”

Other vitcmins from Bumbahya village were Bridget Biir, 11, Anthony Kule and Edwine Thembo, 5, and one unidentified child.

All these children belong to one father Mr Edward Baluku who is a survivor from the disaster.

From Kagheme village one victmin identified as Syprus Bwambale 10 was confirmed dead and his father Mr John Bihande who is still missing.

This recent rainfall has not only led to loss of lives but also has made  the roads damaged , schools flooded , houses destructed and food crops spoilt.

When the State Minister  for relief and disaster preparedness Ms. Lillian Aber was asked about the government’s plans to the affected vitcmins she said, “currently the ministry doesn’t have enough funds to cater for all the affected people.’’
