TODAY IN HISTORY: H.E Iddi Amin Dada Over Throws H.E Milton Obote’s Government.

On this day, Obote had traveled to Singapore for an official meeting, where he got the news that Major General Amin had over thrown him and that he was no-longer the President of Uganda. Obote had been the Prime Minister Of Uganda since independence, until in may 1966 when he attacked the Lubiri.

The first President Of Uganda H.E Edward Muteesa II, flew into exile in London, where he breathed his last in 1969, and it was alleged that he was just poisoned. Obote 1 ruled Uganda from that time (1996), until 1971 when Amin over threw him.

Iddi Amin Dada Oumee was born in 1928 and he grew up with his mother Assa Aatte. His father Andreas Nyabire who was first a catholic and later converted into Islam abandoned them at a very young age. In 1941, Amin started school in Bombo, where he later left and joined the British Army as a cook. By then, that Army was called “The King’S African Rifles”

He was the third (3) President of Uganda, and he ruled Uganda for nine (9) years. He was over thrown in 1979 by rebel groups, which were also supported by the Tanzanian Army, on orders of H.E Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. He died in Saudi Arabia in 2003 where he had been in exile.
