Education: The Political Games In This Sector.

A few weeks ago, the government suggested that it will have to start regulating the school fees structures of all private schools in Uganda.

This regulation was supposed to start from this exact term but due to an known reasons it was extended. It is alleged that this meant to rise the current government’s political support among parents.

This is being done because they think it will make parents feel happy as they pay reduced school fees.

This target may not work because most of the Private school owners are the big people that participate in the formulation of these laws, so it might be hard for them to accept the regulation of the school fees structure of private schools.

According to Ssempara Kigozi Emmanuel, the regulations will not work because the government accepted privatization of which they can’t immediately jump in and stop it.

“Since education is a state service, all states services such as hospitals have to be regulated” Ssempara said.

Before this is done one should know the statistics at which the population is growing and compared it with the number of schools available.

Mr Ssempara further said that since private individuals started up private schools and the government left them with the powers to control their property, they have to charge every amount they feel like charging as school fees because most of these schools charge school fees due to the services they provide to the students and the utilities they use as a school.

“There is no school that chargers school fees without the parents say”Mr Ssempara said.

The population of Uganda is increasing day and night but it’s unfortunate that the government schools are not increasing but instead the Private schools are even more available for the students.

Most of the Government schools were founded under Catholic churches, Anglican churches, traditional and others were communal schools of which the government found it easy to own them by aiding them and providing them teachers salary and some other things.

If the government is to win it’s game of regulating school fees in private schools it should first turn all these schools into government aided schools but if this is not done it means  this deal will fail as the private schools don’t get anything from the government apart from the text books of which they distribute in a corrupt way.
