SAD EVENING: TAMALE MIRUNDI DIES AT 60YRS

Veteran Journalist and Political Analyst Joseph Tamale Mirundi Passes Away

Kampala, Uganda – Renowned journalist and political commentator Joseph Tamale Mirundi passed away on Tuesday evening, August 13, at a hospital in Kampala. Born in 1964 in Matale village, Rakai district, central Uganda, to Mzee Yowana Mirundi and Molly Mirundi, Tamale Mirundi was a prominent figure in Ugandan politics.

During his 12-year tenure as Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Tamale Mirundi gained recognition for his unwavering support of President Museveni’s administration.

His unapologetic stance on controversial issues, such as the government’s refusal to allow the Kabaka to visit Kayunga in 2010, sparked both admiration and criticism. Notably, he defended the government’s decision to temporarily shut down four radio stations, showcasing his unflinching loyalty.

Tamale Mirundi was also an accomplished author, penning several books on politics and current affairs. His sharp wit and candid opinions made him a household name, often sparking lively debates and discussions.

In recent weeks, Tamale Mirundi had been hospitalized at Kisubi Hospital in Entebbe municipality, Wakiso district, battling an undisclosed illness. His passing has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s political and journalistic circles, with many mourning the loss of a complex and influential figure.
