POLITICS : Are You Serving ?

The stage for 2026 is already set for our quinquennial drama and the cast is likely to stay the same, with a few changes in the supporting cast team.

When you look at all the current leaders that were voted in the 2021 elections, currently, their focus is far away from service delivery, they have already shifted to how they will win the next election come 2026.

Most politicians shy away from the fact that their biggest reason for joining politics is to earn a living since most of them invest in their campaigns with the hope that they will recover doubly incase they win an election.

This is why most of the developments we get in our communities are at the mercy of the government, simply because the leaders we voted are busy monitoring their political business plans, instead of doing exactly what they were voted to do.

My biggest worry is on the fact that the spirit of serving is slowly dying out due to the new trend of using leadership as a financial platform.

It’s true that we do what we do to objectively improve our standards of living, but as a leader, your vision should always surpass your personal wants.

Come 2026, our focus as the electorate should be more on what our leaders have done, than on what they are promising to do incase they win those positions of power.

The reality is, a person who is dedicated to service can create change in their surroundings, even in the absence of power and resources.

As a country, we should change the leadership narrative and we start voting and appointing leaders basing on what they have done for their various communities and the country at large.

No country has ever wholesomely developed, with leaders who front their personal interests. Growth and development are achieved when our leaders put a lot of emphasis on matters that concern the general population they represent or come from.
