All Government All civil Servants Have Been Mandated To Allocate Two Hours Per Week For Physical Exercise.

The Ugandan government has mandated that all civil servants allocate two hours per week for physical exercise to promote fitness and health. This directive, conveyed through a letter from the head of public service, Lucy Nakyobe, aims to mitigate lifestyle diseases and improve staff well-being.

The initiative follows a national health survey indicating a rise in obesity rates from 17% to 26% over 17 years. Uganda has previously introduced initiatives like the National Day for Physical Activity in 2018. Dr. Charles Oyoo Akiya, the commissioner for non-communicable disease prevention, stated that the health ministry has been conducting exercise sessions for staff and advocates for its implementation across all departments.
