Cedric Babu Returns Home Uganda Prepares to Lay Media Icon to Rest

The body of Cedric Babu Ndilima, a renowned Ugandan media personality, sports administrator, and politician, arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, via Entebbe International Airport.

Cedric, the son of former Kampala Central MP Captain Francis Babu, passed away on Saturday, May 31, at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi after a prolonged battle with severe heart failure. He was 46 years old.

Following its arrival, the casket was transported to Uganda Funeral Services in Bukoto in preparation for a series of burial events scheduled throughout the week

A vigil and mass will take place today, Wednesday, June 4, at the family residence in Naguru. A second vigil and mass are planned for tomorrow, Thursday, June 5, at the same location.

On Friday, June 6, a requiem mass will be held at Rubaga Cathedral. Later that day, Cedric’s body will be taken to Kamengo for a final vigil.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday, June 7.

As part of the proceedings, a public viewing will be held tomorrow at Lugogo Indoor Stadium. Friends, fans, and colleagues from the media and sports fraternities are expected to attend to pay their final respects.

Cedric Babu’s passing has elicited an outpouring of grief and tributes from across Uganda.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and President of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), referred to him as a “brother, close friend, and comrade in the struggle.”

“Where many children of Uganda’s elite families avoid politics, Cedric had the courage to participate in the governance of his country,” Gen. Kainerugaba said, praising Cedric’s excellence in tennis, his business acumen, and his commitment to public service.

The Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), where Cedric once hosted The Cedric Live Show, described him as a “valued member of the UBC family,” commending the energy and insight he brought to Ugandan television.

Cedric Babu leaves behind a wife and three sons.
