Uganda’s best-selling artist Joseph Mayanja aka Ragga Jose aka Jose Chameleone, will be returning home after almost three months of battling pancreatitis at medical facilities in the United States of America.
This follows the emergency intervention of Ugandan-based businesswoman cum singer Juliet Zawedde, who personally flew out the acclaimed singer and footed his hospital bills, residence and upkeep.
Chameleone, who before the Zawedde, SOS initiative had initially been booked at a hospital in his Seguku neighbourhood, in late 2024, before later being booked into Nakasero Hospital, in Kampala under the auspices of the state house.
The singer known for his craving for whiskey, cigarettes and all manner of smoke additives, was in a dire health state, with many including himself scared of the foreseen eventual life-threatening scare.
Chameleone, who at first abused his local doctor’s advice, was taken aback when he was rushed to the hospital ER for the same.
It is then that he made a personal decision to take matters of his life into his own hands and has lived an alcohol and substance-free lifestyle as recommended by also his doctors in the US.
This medical tourism sojourn, however, has come at a personal sacrifice, which resulted in him becoming totally dependent on Zawedde, for money, cars and gas.
His long stay is also said to have matured into an inconvenience since his entourage included his brother Douglas Mayanja aka Weasel Manizo.
According to reports, Chameleone also has since lost hope in the governments promises to wire him monies to a time of $100,000, which was frozen after the Zawedde, took over.
This dependence has now forced into deciding to jet back home and make ends meet which resolve might be fatal if he backslides on medical advice not to touch any alcohol or smoke-related intoxicants.
A very tricky resolution, owing to the fact that Chameleone, lives a single reckless life with a bunch of opportunistic handlers, who not only worship him but abuse his talent for their financial gains.
Many a fan may pray that after Chameleone, patches up the friction between his son Abba Marcus and the other children save for their mother and his estranged wife Daniella Atim Mayanja will give him a new purpose to live.
Meanwhile, one of his trusted security detail hang-around, JB Razor, has since been sighted hoovering around the National Unity Platform president and Chameleone on/off nemesis Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine.
