Gov’t Launches Probe into Violent Attack on Opposition Leader Ssenyonyi – Minister Muhoozi.

By Dean Lubowa Saava

Uganda’s Minister of State for Internal Affairs, Gen. David Muhoozi, has vowed to investigate a violent altercation involving Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi and masked security operatives in Kawempe Division.

The incident occurred when Ssenyonyi and NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya visited a residential house, suspecting pre-ticked ballot papers ahead of the Kawempe North by-election.

Although no pre-ticked ballots were found, the situation escalated into a violent scuffle, leaving Rubongoya injured and journalist Steven Kibwiika hospitalized.

Rubongoya condemned the violence, calling it a targeted attempt to intimidate opposition leaders and suppress transparency. The incident has sparked concerns about election integrity and safety of opposition leaders.

Minister Muhoozi’s investigation pledge aims to uncover the truth behind the altercation. The Kawempe North by-election is set to take place tomorrow, amidst heightened tensions.
