Leaders Travel To Italy For a Three-Day G7 Summit.

At a three-day summit in Puglia (Apulia)June 13-15, 2024., southern Italy, leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—are debating world concerns. And for the very first time,Pope Francis is scheduled to attend the G7 summit also on Friday.

According to a Vatican programme, he will have one-on-one talks with each leader of the nation.

As usual, there is a lot being talked at these G7 meetings. In fact, when these significant leaders get together for a conference like this.

The presidents of the European Commission and European Council are there also to represent the European Union.

The meeting  will focus on the following key issues:

  • * Africa: development, climate change.
    * The current state of affairs in the Middle East
    * Russia’s aggressive conflict with Ukraine
    * Migration
    * Artificial intelligence, energy, the Indo-Pacific region, and the Africa-Mediterranean region

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, stated he anticipates “significant decisions” to be made during this G7 gathering.

“A large part of [the summit] will be devoted to Ukraine, our defence and economic resilience,” he adds.

Zelensky lists increasing fighter jet pilot training, accelerating plane supplies to Ukraine, and increasing air defence and long-range weaponry as Ukraine’s top priorities during its G7 presidency.

He continues, saying that following his bilateral discussions with the US and Japan, he will sign security agreements with both nations.
