FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE: FMD Has Become aThreat To Cattle Farmers in Uganda.

The Minister of Agriculture , Animal industry and FisheriesFrank Tumwebaze has revealed that the Government is in the process of procuring vaccines to vaccinate cattle against Foot and Mouth disease.


Most of the districts in the cattle corridor of Uganda have faced the animal quarantine where no animal or animal
product is supposed to be sold or moved from one district to another.


At least 36 districts are under quarantine and some of them are; i Bukedia,Ntungamo, Rwampara, Lyantonde,
Sembabule, Mbarara, Kyotera ,Kyiruhura and Lwengo ETC.

This quarantine is affecting very many farmers since they used to earn most of the money from cattle products and
selling the cattle.


Most of the children from most families may not return back to school on Monday 5 th February because of the
insufficient capital for purchasing scholastic materials and paying school fees since most of the parents used to get
money from their cattle.

According to the minister of agriculture, In the next one or two months, the ministry expect to receive a dispatch of
2.3 million doses of the vaccines to those affected districts for ring vaccination.
