Following Israel’s attack on Iran’s Consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria early this month that claimed seven Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran also retaliated on 13 April, last Saturday, making it the first war between the two countries.
This comes after just one week when Israeli’s defence and foreign ministers warned Iran that they would strike back inside Iran if they dared to attack them.
The Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Hosssein Amirabdollahian said yesterday that they had written to the White House in Washington DC that their operations would be limited and minimal with an aim of legitimate defence and punishment of the Israeli regime.
The United States on Saturday helped Israeli to put down over 300 drones, cruise and ballistic missiles that the Iranian government had launched against Israeli and loud explosions were heard in Jerusalem as Israeli with it’s allies were shooting down the missiles and drones, though one of the missiles hit Israeli’s military base where a 10 year old girl got some injuries.
However, the President of the United States in his conversation with the Prime Minister of Israeli Benjamin Netanyahu, he condemned the attack and warned Israel to think very carefully and strategically if they are to decide to hit back Iran. He assured them of their support in terms of aid.
Through their X account, the Iran Mission to the United Nations cited Article 51 of the UN Chatter in regards to their attack in Israeli saying “Conducted on the strength of Article 51 of the UN Charter pertaining to legitimate defence, Iran’s military action was in response to the Zionist regime’s aggression against our diplomatic premises in Damascus. The matter can be deemed concluded. However, should the Israeli regime make another mistake, Iran’s response will be considerably more severe. It is a conflict between Iran and the rogue Israeli regime, from which the U.S. MUST STAY AWAY!”
“We do not seek conflict with Iran, but we will not hesitate to act to protect our forces and support the defence of Israel” an official statement from the white house said.
In a letter written to the Secretary General Of the United Nations, the Permanent Mission Of The Islamic Republic Of Iran to the United Nation said ” Regrettably, the United Nations Security Council has failed in it’s duty to maintain peace and security allowing the Israeli regime to transgress lines and violate the fundamental principles of international law. Such violations have exacerbated tensions in the region and threatened regional and International peace and security.”
According to the Iranian government, this operation is called “Operation True Promise”.
