President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently paid a working visit to Uganda on October 30, 2024, at the invitation of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Upon arrival, Tshisekedi was warmly received at State House, Entebbe, by his host, President Museveni. The DRC President was accompanied by his ministers and senior government officials, setting the stage for productive bilateral talks.

During their discussions, the two Heads of State tackled pressing matters of mutual interest, reviewing the current regional situation and developments. They reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and security, recognizing the significance of their collaboration in maintaining stability in the East African region.

A key aspect of their talks was the emphasis on strengthening economic and commercial ties between Uganda and the DRC. Both leaders acknowledged the vital role these relationships play in fostering growth and stability in their respective countries, as well as the broader regional economy.

This visit comes at a time when the DRC and Uganda are working closely together on various initiatives, including refugee response plans and humanitarian efforts. Organizations like the Danish Refugee Council have been actively supporting refugees in Uganda, providing protection services, economic recovery initiatives, and promoting financial inclusion.

The visit also highlights the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared challenges, such as displacement, humanitarian needs, and economic development. By working together, Uganda and the DRC can leverage their collective strengths to drive growth and stability in the region.

Key Areas of Cooperation:

– Regional Peace and Security: Strengthening collaboration to maintain stability in the East African region

– Economic and Commercial Ties: Enhancing trade and investment between Uganda and the DRC

– Refugee Response: Supporting refugees in Uganda through protection services and economic recovery initiatives

– Humanitarian Efforts: Addressing humanitarian needs and promoting financial inclusion in the region.
