Ugandan Businessman Rajiv Ruparelia Dies in Fiery Car Crash

Kampala, Uganda – Prominent businessman and philanthropist Rajiv Ruparelia has died in a tragic road accident that occurred early Saturday morning along the Kampala Southern Bypass.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident was a “single fatal crash” involving a white Nissan GTR (registration UAT 638L).

“On 03/05/2025 at 1:54 a.m., the vehicle crashed, overturned, and caught fire at the Busabala flyover in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District,” said Owoyesigyire. “We have confirmed the driver was Rajiv Ruparelia (35). He died at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.”

Eyewitnesses and video footage from the scene show the vehicle engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the wreckage. By the time emergency services arrived, the car had been reduced to scrap metal.

Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura revealed that preliminary findings point to the car colliding with temporary pavements installed at a roundabout on the flyover. The impact caused the car to overturn and ignite, killing the driver instantly.
