Scholes Slams Amorim’s Strategy Leading To EPL Poor Performance

Paul Scholes says Ruben Amorim ‘won’t admit it’ but he’s responsible for Man Utd’s ‘madness’, ‘He’s not playing…’
Manchester United’s season hinges on one game and that’s the Europa League final but Paul Scholes says the club’s big issue this season has come from Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim came to Old Trafford mid-season, taking over a team that was not his, a tactical and structural mess, and the new manager bounce taken by Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Considering all those circumstances, Amorim did pretty well to prioritise and afford his team a chance to save their season by going all-in on Europe at the cost of league form.
Paul Scholes has now called out the Man Utd manager, instead of giving him credit, for the club’s biggest issue this season, claiming that Amorim ‘won’t admit it’.

Paul Scholes calls out Ruben Amorim
Scholes hasn’t been the biggest supporter of Amorim from the day he walked through the doors, even though he becomes awfully silent when he’s speaking to the manager.
His latest attack on Amorim comes as a result of him prioritising the Europa League and the byproduct of that being the club’s bad league form.

United are set to finish at their worst-ever Premier League position and Scholes has blamed Amorim’s mentality for letting it happen even though he ‘won’t admit it’.
In a column for TNT Sports, Scholes said: “It’s almost as if they go into Premier League games and there’s an acceptance that they’re not going to win the game, which is madness. I think the acceptance has come from everyone.
“I think it’s come from the manager even though he won’t admit it. He’s not playing teams to win games of football in the league. I think even fans are thinking let’s get these league games out of the way because the league has been a disaster.”

Ruben Amorim is doing the right thing
The squad Amorim took over was 13th in the league, albeit only five points off the league and he started off trying to figure out his best team.
Then they were playing in a system completely alien to them so during that time, United’s losses in the league already had them outside looking in.
However, when the seeds of qualification were planted in Europe, Amorim made the correct decision to put all his eggs in the basket because not only was there a trophy at stake, but the UCL qualification was as big of a reward.
Any sane manager would do the same but it doesn’t mean that the team goes into league games expecting to lose.
Just ask Brentford, against whom United’s tired squad went all the way and almost clawed back a draw from being 4-1 down.

That’s not the sign of a team that has given up on league games, and Amorim certainly isn’t asking them to throw the games to stay fit for Europe.
In fact, he’s probably been guilty of risking too many senior players in the league when the Man Utd fans would be perfectly happy if he played a youth XI.
Scholes is pretty far off the mark here but that’s no longer a surprise to many fans who follow the club.
