After almost four years on trial government on Monday dropped murder , attempted murder and terrorism charges against the late Kawempe North MP Mohammed Ssegirinya and directed the DPP to amend the indictment against Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanya and four others.

This follows that passing of the maverick Hon. Segirinya,, death on 8th January, according to the formal judicial process, the case against him therefore automatically fell, and the state cannot continue prosecuting him.
The above decision was reached at when the matter come up before the High Court’s International Crimes Division as Justice Alice Komuhangi Kaukha, and was informed by the late Segirinya’s lawyer Samuel Muyizzi, of the passing of his client.
In a twist of events, the lead prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka, first contested the authenticity of the information , and requested through the judge for the death certificate of the deceased to be produced , which was over rule.
Justice Komuhangi, then took the judicial notice and condoled with the entire nation for the death of Ssegirinya who was jointly accused with the Makindye West MP Allah Ssewanyana and 4 others for having a hand in the 2021 murders in greater Masaka region commonly referred to as ” Bijambiya murders” that claimed a total of 20 lives .

Following their arrest in 2021 the duo then were jailed for close to two years as they continuously failed to be awarded bail despite their high profile political status.
They were later granted bail on 13th February 2023 at the Masaka High Court Resident Judge, Lawrence Tweyanze granted the two legislators temporary freedom.
Prosecution led by Birivumbuka, then requested the Judge for an adjournment which was granted to 1st April 2025, when the amended charge sheet will be presented to court.
