Kampala December 6—Commissioner of Parliament and former leader of Opposition, Mathius Mpuuga Nsamba, has officially quit the opposition National Unity Platform NUP, and launched a new political pressure platform, called the Democratic Alliance with anticipation of transforming it into a fully-fledged Political Party.
He also announced that his platform will actively field candidates in the coming 2026 local, Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
Announcing the launch at Malibu Gardens Namirembe-Bakuli, a Kampala suburb, Friday, the Nyendo Mukungwe legislator, said his new pressure platform is aimed at bringing together Ugandans eager for change.
The launch which was given vibe for over a week by his fellow DP Bloc led by Lubega Mukaaku, Michael Mabikke and Abed Bwanika, was held under tight security of Police and military giving a sign of a national event.
Mpuuga had no kind words for his former Political party, NUP, and its leadership which he termed as dormant with no any activity.
“The last I heard the group’s leader (Robert Kyagulanyi) was busy planning a major concert. This seems to be the plan, a lack of a plan. I suspect this is intentional”, Mpuuga told the chanting crowd.
He also attacked the current opposition as a whole saying that it is mired in divisive issues instead of concentrating on genuine transformation of the people of Uganda. “This will not be the case with the Democratic Alliance’, he said.
As it has become a habit in Ugandan politics for music to be synonymous with politics, the Democratic Alliance boss, Mathius Mpuuga, signed a memorandum of understanding with one of the popular musicians, Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Allien Skin in the entertainment sector, to work with him for and during the coming 2026 general elections to mobilize the electorate.
Mpuuga introduced Allien Skin to the crowd who pledged to collaborate with the Nyendo Mukugwe legislator during the coming elections.
However Alien Skin, who was recently released on bail from Luzira prison on charges of stealing an iphone and molesting Nsambya hospital staff, stunned the gathering towards the end of his address when he said
“ Ladies and gentlemen I want to share that one of my alleged offences that led to my arrest and detention at Luzira was a phone theft. Not everyone incarcerated in Luzira is guilty, just as not everyone out is innocent. Additionally, it is reported that Hon. Mpuuga is accused of misappropriating shs. 500m, so we are both labeled as thieves. As the saying goes, birds of the same feathers flock together”, something which Mpuuga supporters said was uncalled for.

Allien Skin utterances add to another scandal in which the DP bloc leadership was recently embroiled in when they were accused of getting money from state house under the cover of mobilizing support for the ruling party.
The launch was also addressed by Mpuuga’s stalwart supporters who included Kimanya-Kabonera legislator, Dr. Abed Bwanika, who told the gathering that he is determined to contest the 2026 lections whether NUP supporters give him votes or not but he will not support NUP’s policy on homosexuality. He added that he had been involved in the fight to bring freedom to Ugandans long before Bobi Wine and NUP rose to prominence.
Former Lubaga North legislator Moses Kasibante, also criticized the NUP leadership and vowed to work with the Nyendo-Mukungwe legislator to bring about change in the country.
