George H.W. Bush Married Barbara Pierce On This Day

George H.W. Bush’s life was marked by significant milestones, including his marriage to Barbara Pierce on January 6, 1945. At the time, Bush was on leave from active duty in World War II, and Barbara was just 20 years old, while Bush was only a year older.

Before marrying Barbara, Bush had already made history by becoming the youngest pilot in the United States Navy at just 18 years old ¹ ². He achieved this feat after enlisting in the Navy immediately upon graduating from Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.

Following the war, Bush attended Yale University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1948. This marked the beginning of his successful career in politics and public service, which would eventually lead him to become the 41st President of the United States.

A power couple! George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush were married for 73 years, from January 6, 1945, until Barbara’s passing on April 17, 2018. Their enduring marriage was a testament to their love and commitment to each other.
