Commonwealth Day 2025: Celebrating Unity, Cooperation and to Highlight 60 years of the Secretariat

Today, March 10th marks a significant occasion as the 56 member countries of the commonwealth come together every second Monday of March to celebrate Commonwealth Day. This year’s theme “Together We Thrive,” applying emphasis on the importance of unity and cooperation among member nations. The celebration also coincides with a major milestone the 60th anniversary of the Commonwealth Secretariat, the executive arm of the association.

Established in 1965, the Commonwealth Secretariat plays a vital rola in supporting member countries in achieving the Commonwealth’s goals of development, democracy and peace. Over the years the Secretariat has worked tirelessly to promote democracy, human rights, sustainability and prosperity among it’s member states. As a voluntary association of 56 independent and equal countries, the Commonwealth is home to a third of the world’s population making it a significant player in global affairs.

To commemorate Commonwealth Day, a range of events and activities are taking place throughout March. These include civic and faith gatherings, school assemblies, debates, flag raising ceremonies and cultural celebrations. In London Commonwealth Secretariat is hosting a reception, while a multi faith service will be held at Westminster Abbey. Broadcast live on BBC One.

The celebration of Commonwealth Day servers as a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation among nations. In a world faced with numerous challenges the Commonwealth’s commitment to democracy, human rights and sustainability is more relevant than ever. As the organization continues to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of it’s member states, it’s core values remain a beacon of hope for a more prosperous and peaceful world.

Commonwealth Day 2025 is a significant occasion that celebrates the unity and cooperation among member nations. As the Commonwealth Secretariat marks it’s 60th anniversary, it is testament to the organization’s enduring commitment to promoting democracy, human rights and sustainability. As we move forward it is essential that we continue to work together to address the challenges of our time and create a brighter future for all.
