Breaking; Lawyers are to challenge the decision of the General Court Martial for sentencing lawyer Eron Kiiza to 9 months in prison.

Lawyers Phillip Karugaba and Prof. Christopher Mbaziira are to challenge the decision of the General Court Martial for sentencing lawyer Eron Kiiza to 9 months in prison.

“It’s unjustly, sentencing Eron Kiiza to NINE months in Kitalya Prison is a total miscarriage of justice by kangaroo brutes showing off their UPDF uniforms”.

” Ugandans must rise up en masse against this impunity” they said.

Speaking to Journalists in Kampala Lawyers also says that soldiers at the General Court Martial do not know the law.

This follows the press statement released by the Uganda law society.

The court martial should never be allowed to masturbate with our laws for their own egoistic pleasure as actors of oppression lawyers said.

Section 171 (1)(g), 171(2) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Act, 2005 Act 7 of 2005 provides that an advocate like Eron Kiiza can only be punished for contempt of Court not exceeding 30 days. 9 Months which he has been given is arbitrary and erroneous.

There is nothing wrong kiiza has done to warrant contempt.

The soldiers should not be allowed to enjoy the privileges of judicial officers of civilian courts for alleged contempt of court.
