Uganda Mourns Loss of Dedicated Leader: Sarah Mateke’s Legacy Honored

The Ugandan government and citizens are mourning the loss of Sarah Mateke, a devoted politician, educationist, and philanthropist who passed away at the age of 50. Mateke, who served as the State Minister for Defence, was remembered for her tireless dedication to supporting Uganda’s defense forces and veterans.

President Museveni and various government officials, including Minister for Justice Norbert Mao, Minister for the Presidency Milly Babalanda, and Speaker Anita Among, expressed their condolences and praised Mateke’s commitment to serving her country.

Mateke’s legacy extends beyond her political career, as she was also a passionate advocate for education and social development. Her contributions to Uganda’s growth and development will be deeply missed.

A joint organizing committee has been formed to ensure a dignified send-off, with a full burial program to be announced soon. The nation comes together to stand with Mateke’s family and loved ones, honoring her memory and celebrating her life’s work.

Sarah Mateke’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to Uganda’s development. From her early days as a teacher to her later roles in politics, she remained dedicated to serving her country and its people.

As a politician, Mateke served two terms as the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament and was appointed to various ministerial positions, including State Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development, and State Minister for Defence.

Her passion for education and social development led her to champion various initiatives, improving the lives of countless Ugandans.

As Uganda bids farewell to this remarkable leader, her legacy will continue to inspire and motivate future generations. Sarah Mateke’s life serves as a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and selfless service.
