A devastating road accident in Luuka District has taken the lives of Gladys Aliyinza, a prominent politician vying for the Luuka Woman parliamentary seat, and her political assistant, Yusuf Biita. The fatal crash occurred on Thursday evening when their vehicle, a silver grey Isuzu double cabin (Reg No UG4654), collided head-on with a sugarcane-loaded lorry ((link unavailable) UAU 073G) on the Kaliro-Luuka road.
According to police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha, the truck was traveling from Kaliro, while the Isuzu was heading in the opposite direction. The collision caused the vehicles to overturn several times, resulting in the fatalities. The drivers of both vehicles are currently at large, and a manhunt is underway.
Gladys Aliyinza, a resident of Lambala village, Irongo parish, is survived by three children with her husband, Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary. Her burial is scheduled for Sunday, June 30, at Lambala village, starting at 11 am.
Yusuf Biita, a personal assistant to the chairman of Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and Busoga’s first deputy premier, Al-hajj Prof. Dr Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira, will be laid to rest today, Friday, June 28, at Kirimwa village, Bukooma sub-county, at 4 pm.The tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, with condolences pouring in for the families of the deceased.
