President Museveni Lashes Out at MPs and Buganda’s Prime Minister Over National Coffee Amendment Bill

President Yoweri Museveni has strongly criticized members of Parliament and Buganda’s Prime Minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, for introducing tribal sentiments into the discussion on the National Coffee Amendment Bill. Museveni emphasized that no one can lecture him on the bill, labeling such behavior as “dishonest”.

Museveni clarified that the decision to restructure the Uganda Coffee Development Authority is not targeted at specific regions, such as Buganda, as some may think. Instead, he stressed that Uganda’s coffee industry is a collective national asset that should benefit the entire country.

The President’s comments come after his previous support for Buganda Kingdom’s “Mwanyi Terimba” project, aimed at promoting coffee farming among the kingdom’s subjects. Museveni had donated Shs413 million to the project, praising the Katikkiro of Buganda, Mr. Charles Peter Mayiga, for fighting poverty in the kingdom through coffee production.

The President’s strong stance on the National Coffee Amendment Bill highlights his commitment to Uganda’s agricultural development and his vision for a unified national approach to coffee production.
