President Museveni Establishes New Anti-Corruption Unit to Tackle URA Revenue Losses

Kampala, Uganda – In a bid to curb the perennial problem of corruption and revenue loss at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), President Yoweri Museveni has created a new unit, the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit. This unit will oversee URA operations and combat corruption within the tax administration system.

According to the Presidency, the new unit aims to reverse the trend of annual multi-billion revenue losses resulting from corruption and inefficiencies at URA. This move is part of President Museveni’s broader effort to rationalize and merge government agencies, a move expected to save over Shs1 trillion annually.

The establishment of this unit demonstrates President Museveni’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring efficient revenue collection. The new unit will work closely with URA to identify and address vulnerabilities in the tax system, preventing further revenue losses.

This development is a significant step in Uganda’s fight against corruption, which is estimated to cost the country over Shs10 trillion annually. The creation of the State House Revenue Intelligence and Strategic Operations Unit shows that the government is serious about addressing this issue and ensuring that resources are used effectively to benefit the citizens of Uganda.

The move has been welcomed by many, who see it as a positive step towards improving transparency and accountability in the tax administration system. As Uganda continues to grapple with the challenges of corruption, this new unit is a promising development in the fight against graft.
