Museveni Meets Police Council: Security, Stability Top Agenda

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni addressed the 28th Police Council meeting on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, emphasizing the importance of strategic discussions and decision-making in addressing contemporary policing challenges.

The Police Council, comprising 85 members, including the Inspector General of Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Directors, and representatives from various ranks, plays a crucial role in overseeing key aspects of police operations.

The Police Council is a crucial organ within the Uganda Police Force, comprising 85 members, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Directors, and representatives from various ranks.

As the top policy-making body, the Police Council is responsible for:

Recruitment and Training: Ensuring the police force has the necessary personnel and skills to perform its duties.

– Appointment and Promotions: Managing career progression of police officers.

– Discipline: Maintaining order and discipline within the force.

– Terms and Conditions of Service: Ensuring fair treatment and working conditions for police personnel.

– Provision of Resources and Equipment: Overseeing the provision of necessary resources and equipment.

Policy Development: Developing and implementing policies to guide police operations.

Organizational Structure: Ensuring the police force’s organizational structure is effective and efficient.

The Police Council’s work is guided by the Police Act, Cap 324. President Museveni’s attendance at the meeting underscored the importance of collaboration between the police force and the government in ensuring a safe and secure community.

In related developments, President Museveni has previously demonstrated his commitment to strengthening the police force by promoting senior officers, such as the elevation of five senior police officers to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).
