“IGG Launches Probe into Uganda Investment AutKampala, Uganda – The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has commissioned a comprehensive investigation into the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) following allegations of corruption, embezzlement, abuse of office, and mismanagement of office by top officials.
Finance State Minister for Privatization, Evelyn Anite, and UIA board chairperson, Morrison Rwakakamba, are among those implicated in the scandal. The probe will also investigate the termination of the owner’s engineer and land allocation to Tirupati Uganda Limited, which resulted in a court ruling against UIA in July last year.
The investigation will further scrutinize the allocation of land to investors at Namanve industrial park and the requisition of sh9b in taxes for contractor Dott-Lagan, as well as how Uganda Revenue Authority assessed these taxes.
While Minister Anite acknowledged awareness of the investigation, she stated that she had not yet been contacted by the IGG to record a statement.The IGG’s probe comes as a significant development in the ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and ensure accountability in public offices. The outcome of the investigation is expected to have significant implications for the UIA and its officials.
