The Untold Story of Maj Gen James Kazini: A Key Figure in South Sudan’s Fight for Independence.

The remarkable story of Maj Gen James Kazini is one that embodies courage, sacrifice, and the pursuit of justice. Born and raised in Kiruhura, this Bukonzo man became a key figure in South Sudan’s fight for independence, although tragically, he never lived to witness the historic event.

In 1996, as a former Colonel and a fugitive, Kazini led a daring attack and ambush in Kaya, South Sudan, where he and his team eliminated over 200 Sudanese soldiers and captured 150 others. This audacious act not only showcased his military prowess but also inspired hope that oppressive regimes like that of Gen Omar al Bashir could be challenged.

Known for his integrity and innovative thinking, Kazini proposed the idea of painting all military vehicles green, a move that was initially met with resistance but eventually embraced by his superiors. His strategic vision and unwavering determination caught the attention of President Yoweri Museveni, who commended him for his role in retaliating against what he referred to as the “Khartoum Soldiers”.

Despite his many accomplishments, Maj Gen Kazini’s life was cut short under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and resilience. His gallant spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the annals of South Sudan’s struggle for freedom.

The saga of Maj Gen Kazini serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice and the enduring legacy of those who dare to fight for what they believe in. Though he may have not witnessed the dawn of South Sudan’s independence, his indelible mark on history remains steadfast.
