Hussein Kyanjo was a Ugandan politician and former Member of Parliament for Makindye West. He passed away on July 22, 2023, at Kibuli Hospital in Kampala after battling colon cancer and dystonia, a movement disorder that affects muscle control.

  • Early Life and Education: Born in 1960 in Ntuuma, Bukomansimbi District, to Hajji Siliman Zirabamuzaale Jakana and Mariam Nabuuma. He attended Ntuuma Primary School, Kako Primary School, and Masaka Secondary School. Kyanjo later graduated with a degree in Industrial and Fine Art from Makerere University in 1983.
  • Political Career: Kyanjo served as Makindye West MP on two occasions (2006-2011 and 2011-2016). He was a founding member of the opposition Justice Forum (JEEMA) party and served as its Secretary General emeritus. Kyanjo was known for his strong stance on political matters and his advocacy for justice and transparency.
  • Health Challenges: Kyanjo’s health troubles began in 2011 when he was diagnosed with dystonia, which he believed was caused by poisoning. He later battled stage four colon cancer, which ultimately led to his passing.
