Regional Security: Uganda and Somalia Military Leaders Meet in Nairobi.

By Dean Lubowa Saava

In a significant meeting held in Nairobi this morning, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, engaged in crucial discussions with Somali military leaders, including Brigadier General Madey Nurey Sheikh.

The meeting centered around the security landscape in Mogadishu, with a special focus on the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF) unwavering commitment to fostering peace in the region since 2007.

The UPDF’s role in Somalia has been instrumental in stabilizing the country, and General Kainerugaba’s meeting with Somali military leaders served as a testament to the strong partnership between the two nations. The discussions likely touched on strategies to counter the threat of Al-Shabaab militants, who have been wreaking havoc in the region.

General Kainerugaba’s engagement with Somali military leaders is a continuation of his efforts to strengthen Uganda’s military cooperation with neighboring countries. Recently, he met with his Ethiopian counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, to discuss joint military training and intelligence sharing.

As Uganda celebrates its contributions to regional peace and stability, General Kainerugaba’s meeting in Nairobi serves as a reminder of the country’s unwavering commitment to ensuring security and prosperity in East Africa.
