General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces and first son of President Yoweri Museveni, has praised Mathias Mpuuga, the legislator for Nyendo-Mukungwe, calling him an impressive politician with presidential potential. This endorsement comes after Mpuuga delivered a speech at the launch of the Democratic Alliance.

Muhoozi’s statement is notable, given his own rumored presidential ambitions. He has been mentioned as a possible successor to his father, who has been in power since 1986. However, in a surprising move, Muhoozi recently announced his support for his father’s seventh term as president.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defense Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has been praised by some for his impressive leadership skills, with some even calling him “presidential material.” However, his aspirations for the presidency have been a topic of discussion, with some speculating that he was being groomed to succeed his father.

Interestingly, General Muhoozi recently announced that he will not be running in the 2026 presidential race, which has sparked both positive and negative reactions from his followers. Despite this, his leadership skills and experience make him a notable figure in Ugandan politics.

It’s worth noting that General Muhoozi has been involved in various controversies, including accusations of corruption and human rights abuses. Nevertheless, his influence and reputation in Ugandan politics are undeniable.

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), has expressed his admiration for Mathias Mpuuga, the legislator for Nyendo-Mukungwe, calling him “presidential material”. This endorsement comes on the heels of Mpuuga’s formation of the Democratic Alliance, a new political group aimed at uniting the opposition in pursuit of democratic change.

Mpuuga has welcomed the opportunity to work with any political party to improve the country, following his fallout with the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership. General Muhoozi’s praise for Mpuuga has sparked interest, given his own rumored presidential ambitions.

However, in a surprising move, Muhoozi recently announced his support for his father, President Yoweri Museveni, to run for a seventh term as president.

Mathias Mpuuga, the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP, recently launched the Democratic Alliance, a new political formation aimed at uniting opposition forces to challenge President Yoweri Museveni’s nearly four-decade rule. This move comes after Mpuuga’s fallout with the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership over a controversial UGX 500 million service award he received as a parliamentary commissioner.

Mpuuga’s departure from NUP was marked by his dismissal as deputy party president in charge of the central region. He has since been vocal about his dissatisfaction with NUP’s leadership, accusing them of being in a “deep slumber” and pursuing selfish interests.

The Democratic Alliance, which Mpuuga unveiled last week, is poised to field candidates, including a presidential contender, in the 2026 general election. While Mpuuga has expressed his desire to oust President Museveni, it remains unclear whether he will personally run for presidency in 2026.

Mpuuga’s new alliance has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a genuine attempt to unite the opposition, while others see it as a self-serving move. The alliance’s prospects for success remain uncertain, given the historical challenges faced by opposition coalitions in Uganda.
