Dr. Mathias Magoola, the Founder and Managing Director of Dei BioPharma Ltd, has come under scrutiny following his meeting with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at State House, Entebbe, where he announced that he had secured successful patents for his company’s ongoing efforts to manufacture life-saving drugs and vaccines.

Dr. Mathias Magoola indeed informed President Yoweri Museveni that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) officially granted and published his patent on February 6, 2025.
This patent covers a novel cancer treatment developed using guided RNA attached to the Cas9 protein to target and destroy mutated genes responsible for cancer.
The innovation is significant, offering hope to millions, especially in developing countries, with a potential $300 billion market and plans for production at a multi-billion-dollar vaccine and drug manufacturing facility in Matugga, near Kampala
Dr. Magoola explained to the President that the patent covers a novel cancer treatment developed through years of research. This innovative approach utilizes guided RNA attached to the Cas9 protein to precisely target and destroy mutated genes responsible for cancer.

The patented technology employs CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing techniques to selectively target cancer-causing genes, offering new hope for effective cancer treatment. This breakthrough has significant potential for improving healthcare outcomes and could lead to new therapeutic options for patients worldwide
Antony Natiff, a respected figure in the pharmaceutical industry and affiliate of Guardian Health and Pharmacy, offered his perspective on Dr. Magoola’s patent acquisition. With his expertise in pharmaceuticals and medical sundries, Natiff’s observations provide valuable insights into the potential impact of this innovation on the healthcare sector

It appears that the President of this country, @KagutaMuseveni, has fallen for yet another con. This Magoola man’s online presence is what you’d get if you had a bit of money and decided to curate your online citizenship.
The whole thing stinks to the high heavens.
He, apparently, has a “PhD” (the Sarah Bireete variety?) in management but somehow he is a world leading mRNA science genius who just happened to be a mining expert back in the early 2000s.
The papers that the President refers to are actually “first authored” by that mustached guy he paraded around as the genius who had “discovered the cure for Covid-19” (see frame 2).
Anyone familiar with scientific authorship will tell you that even President Museveni himself with his political science degree and a bit of cash to throw around, can wake up as the biggest scientific author in the history of the Commonwealth, if he took Magoola’s authorship methodology.
I’m curious as to where his lab is, the IRBs that have authorized this research of his etc.
It might actually be interesting to have him on a podcast with an actual MRNA researcher. I have a couple of mRNA science guys from the PNW who have graciously offered to explore Mr Magoola’s groundbreaking research on a live stream as and when he is ready to share.
Until then, we shall treat this as yet another carefully orchestrated con job.

How to Obtain a Medical Patent in the US:
In the U.S., a medical patent, specifically a utility patent, grants exclusive rights to an inventor for a novel, non-obvious, and useful invention related to medical devices, procedures, or treatments.
This includes medical devices, pharmaceutical drugs, and methods of treatment. The patent provides the right to prevent others from making, using, selling, or importing the patented invention for a term of 20 years from the application filing date.

There are many types of patents, but most inventors need to know about three: utility, design, and plant patents. Each protects a different kind of invention. Savvy inventors can utilize these three main patent applications to secure the rights they need to protect their inventions.
Medical Device Patent: Medical device patents often require extensive documentation and can cost between $10,000 and $30,000 or more, especially if the invention involves complex technology or regulatory considerations.
Whether Dr. Magoola ,, in his quest to obtain the said required patent, passed the above basic tests is a story for another day.
