CLEANUP AT CITY HALL: Anti-Corruption Raid Targets KCCA Politicians and Directors

In a dramatic crackdown on corruption, detectives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit have descended upon the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) headquarters, raiding offices and seizing crucial documents in a sweeping investigation.

Mariam Natasha, spokesperson for the unit, confirmed the operation, revealing that detectives are acting on directives from their boss, Brig Henry Isoke, and are armed with incriminating evidence.

According to highly placed sources, the detectives are combing through files and extracting sensitive documents related to road construction contracts, recruitment of casual laborers, and payment delays.

They are also probing allegations of fund mismanagement, particularly the inflation of costs and substandard work by contractors, which has slowed down the rehabilitation of 29 city roads.

The investigation has cast a spotlight on the cozy relationships between KCCA officials and substandard contractors, who were allegedly awarded contracts despite their lack of expertise.

The detectives are also investigating claims that some councilors and support staff are drawing monthly salaries and allowances despite abandoning their offices for greener pastures abroad.

As the detectives dig deeper, KCCA Deputy Executive Director David Luyimbazi has clammed up, refusing to comment until the investigation is concluded. However, Hajjat Minsa Kabanda, the senior KCCA minister, has welcomed the probe, acknowledging the pervasive corruption at City Hall and calling for punishment of those involved.

The raid marks a significant escalation in the fight against corruption, with President Museveni’s Special Forces Command (SFC) engineering brigade already deployed to take over the stalled road construction projects and salvage the country’s image.
