Kampala City Lord Mayor Ssalongo Erias Lukwago is under pressure after councilors kicked off a move to impeach his blue eyed boy David Balondemu from the office of the Kampala District Land Board (KDLB).
In 2020, Lukwago appointed the currently troubled Kampala city lawyer Balondemu as KDLB chairperson replacing controversial Yusuf Nsibambi, the Mawokota South Member of Parliament.
However, in 2023, Balondemu, Erick Geoffrey Mkwe and Joseph Ibona together with others still at large were charged with the offences of fraudulently obtaining Shs2.2bn from the American company KG Unlimited under the guise of awarding them a contract of supplying agricultural drone sprayers and fertilizers in the Ministry of Agriculture at Buganda Chief Magistrate Court.
He was first charged at City Hall Court with offences related to fraud and was released on Court bail. While he is fighting to overcome criminal charges, KCCA councillors led by Paul Kato of Makindye Division have now kicked off the process of impeaching him claiming that he is not fit to hold public office.
Kato confirmed that they have started signing the petition which they are going to present to Zahara Luyirika the KCCA Speaker. Once the petition is handed over to Luyirika, she will have to summon a special KCCA meeting to debate Balondemu’s impeachment.
However, councilors led by Faridah Nakabugo of Lubaga Division are also clandestinely mobilizing fellow councilors not to sign the petition because it was brought in bad faith and facilitated by Balondemu’s enemies.
Our highly placed sources at City Hall told TV10GanoMazima that Balodemu has also assigned former Owino Market boss Suzan Kushaba to coordinate the process of frustrating the move of impeaching him.
The development comes at a time when city schools land like that of Bat valley primary school is on the verge of being taken by Indian businessmen supported by KCCA Central Division mayor Salim Uhuru who claims that they are going to develop the school.
As TV10GanoMazima, we further established that President Museveni received intelligence briefing that Balondemu supported opposition politicians in the 2021 general elections and the big man from Rwakitura is very bitter with him.
Lawyers Evans Ochieng, Caleb Alaka and others who were representing Balondemu were also put on notice and criminal summons from the police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) were issued against them.
Police wanted to know whether they participated in the alleged forging of hospital letters which Balondemu presented to Court as evidence that he was going for a medical operation.
In another development at City Hall, TV10GanoMazima established that Doreen Nyanjura, the KCCA deputy Lord mayor, wants a new office.
Sources claim that Nyanjura reach out to David Luyimbazi the KCCA deputy Executive Director and pleaded with him to get her a new office because he is not comfortable in her current office.
Sources said that Nyanjura told Luyimbazi that her current office is near the public toilet and the bad smell coming out of the toilet spoils the air of her office.
It should be remembered that Luyimbazi took a tough decision to give his personal car to Nyanjura after realising that the one she was using was very old and was embarrassing her and placing the entire KCCA in bad light.
A process is in the offing to purchase a new official car for Nyanjura before the 2026 general election.
The plan was to give her the one which Lukwago was using in the last term but he refused to return it back after president Museveni’s government bought for him a new one.
