Nigerian Footballer Abubakar Lawal Dies in Kampala Mall Incident

Abubakar Lawal, a 29-year-old Nigerian footballer who played for Vipers SC in Uganda, died after allegedly falling from the third floor of Voice Mall Shopping Arcade in Kampala. The incident occurred on Monday, February 24, 2025, at around 8:00 am.

According to preliminary reports, Lawal had arrived at the mall to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national. Naima claimed she left Lawal in the room preparing tea and went to a game center within the mall. Shortly after, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s death, considering possibilities of foul play, suicide, or a tragic accident. They have recovered personal items from the deceased, including two smartphones, a pair of open shoes, headsets, a training kit, and chargers.

The police are reviewing CCTV footage and questioning Naima, mall staff, and potential eyewitnesses to determine what truly happened. They are also waiting for toxicology reports and a postmortem examination to rule out any foul play.
