Ambassador’s Beloved Son Passes On, After Shooting Himself

Robert “Bobby” Kabonero, the 24-year-old son of Ambassador Richard Kabonero and the nephew of businessman Bob Kabonero, passed away on Friday, May 9, after receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital for three months. As the grandson of the late Dr. Kosia Kabonero and the late Canon Constance Kabonero, who passed away on May 30, 2023, Bobby leaves behind a legacy as a promising young individual.

Ambassador Richard Kabonero, Bobby’s father, is currently serving as the head of the department of Regional Economic Cooperation at the Uganda Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has previously held positions as Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania and Rwanda, playing a key role in strengthening bilateral trade and relations between these countries.

The story takes a darker turn with the revelation of family dynamics and Bobby’s struggles. The alleged denial of permission to stay with his mother in the US seems to have had a profound impact on him.

The details surrounding his death are heartbreaking, and the fact that he had expressed intentions to harm himself to his cousins makes the situation even more tragic.

The incident indeed raises important questions about gun safety, accessibility, and the need for support systems for individuals struggling with mental health issues.

May Bobby’s story serve as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health, family support, and responsible gun ownership.

Bobby’s family has announced his passing, with funeral arrangements to be communicated in due course. The Kabonero family has received condolences from friends, leaders, and members of the public who knew them or had encountered Bobby’s gentle strength.
