Youth Stabbed to Death at Busia NRM Event After Minister’s Inciteful Remarks

A 19-year-old disc jockey, Polly Bwire, was fatally stabbed during a National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilisation drive organised by State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, in Busia District on July 3, 2025.

Two others, Lawrence Owori and Collins Ojambo, a 16-year-old Senior One student, were injured in the incident.The event turned chaotic when youths loyal to Minister Barugahara allegedly clashed with supporters of his rival, John Paul Wandera. Police launched an investigation into the incident and arrested two suspects, Ajambo Patricia and Abedi Latif, to assist with inquiries. The authorities are exploring the possibility of the attack being politically motivated.

The incident has sparked concern, with authorities condemning the violence and urging youths to refrain from chaotic behavior. The police are working to determine the motive behind the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
