UNITED NATIONS: UN SECRETARY GENERAL IS IN THE COUNTRY FOR THE G-77 CHINA SUMMIT.

Yesterday night, the UN Boss Mr Antonio Guterres jetted in the country for the G-77 Summit that is starting tomorrow 21st-January-2024 up-to Monday -22nd at Speke Resort Convention Centre . He was welcomed by the Third Prime Minster Hon. Rukia Nakadama and Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nation. On his arrival, a cultural dancing group was around to entertain him and his delegation.

Today , he had a meeting with the President, and in his tweet, the President Of Uganda shared the following;

“During my meeting with His Excellency António Guterres, the UN Secretary General, at the NAM summit, we discussed the need for reforms in the UN Security Council and international financial architecture to ensure representation for African and other developing countries. This is crucial to prevent fragmentation and promote inclusivity.

We are pleased to witness progress in some of our proposals, such as the withdrawal of UN peacekeeping missions from Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo. By empowering the most affected stakeholders, including citizens and neighbouring nations, to lead in addressing regional challenges, we can achieve more efficient and prompt solutions. Our approach focuses on collaboration among national, African, and international efforts.

This guiding principle has enabled us to create a welcoming and accommodating environment for our neighbours during difficult times. We remain steadfast in upholding this principle, even in challenging circumstances. I express my gratitude to Secretary General Guterres for his visit to Uganda.”

We will be sharing more about his stay in the due-course.
