The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has announced a planned power outage for Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This outage will affect areas connected to the Namanve North and Mutundwe substations, including major parts of Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono, and Mpigi districts.
The power interruption is to allow UEDCL to carry out critical maintenance works as part of its broader initiative to modernize and stabilize the national electricity grid.
According to Jonan Kiiza, the Head of Corporate and Stakeholder Affairs at UEDCL, the exercise is a continuation of efforts to strengthen Uganda’s power distribution network.
“The planned maintenance is part of a broader effort to modernize Uganda’s national electricity infrastructure. These works are essential for stabilizing and improving the power supply network, particularly in high-demand and fast-developing regions,” Kiiza stated.
The planned outage will impact electricity supply in areas served by the Namanve North and Mutundwe substations, including:
Kampala City – parts of Rubaga, Kawempe, and Makindye divisions
Wakiso District – including Kira Municipality, Nansana, Bulenga, and parts of Entebbe Road
Mukono District – areas such as Namanve, Seeta, Mukono Town, and nearby industrial zones
Mpigi District – including Mpigi Town, Buwama, and surrounding communities
The maintenance will include preventive servicing of transformers, upgrading feeder lines, and inspecting key infrastructure components to ensure long-term reliability.
In its public statement, UEDCL acknowledged the inconvenience that such outages may cause to residents, businesses, and institutions.
“We understand the impact such interruptions can cause, and we appreciate the public’s patience as we work to ensure a more resilient power network,” the company noted.
Customers are advised to plan accordingly and consider alternative power sources where necessary, especially for essential services and sensitive operations.
UEDCL assures the public that every effort will be made to complete the works within the planned timeframe and restore power promptly.
To keep the public updated, UEDCL will continue to share information through its official communication channels, including radio announcements, SMS alerts, and social media.
