Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua Elected 3rd Bishop of Masindi-Kitara Diocese

The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda has elected Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua as the 3rd Bishop of Masindi-Kitara Diocese. The election, which took place on March 30, 2025, at Zebra Hotel in Masaka City, marks an exciting new chapter for the diocese.

Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua is a highly respected cleric with a rich history of service to the Church. Born on October 7, 1976, he was ordained as a Deacon on January 3, 2010, and as a Priest on December 14, 2010. Over the years, he has served in various leadership roles, including as Parish Priest, Project Officer with Samaritan Purse, and Headteacher at Kigumba Intensive Primary School.

Rev. Kugonza holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Uganda Christian University and a Diploma in Education from National Teachers College Ngetta. His educational background is complemented by several professional courses that have further shaped his leadership skills.

Since 2021, Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua has served as the Diocesan Secretary of Masindi-Kitara Diocese, gaining significant experience in church administration and leadership.

The Church of Uganda’s Provincial Secretary, Rev. Canon William Ongeng, confirmed the election and announced that Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua will be consecrated and enthroned as the 3rd Bishop of Masindi-Kitara Diocese on August 3, 2025, at St. Matthew’s Cathedral Masindi. This ceremony will be a significant event for both the Church and the local community, as they come together to celebrate the new bishop’s appointment and look forward to his leadership in the years ahead.
