Prof. Kateregga and Wife Caught in High-Stakes Property Dispute

What started as a family dispute behind closed doors has now escalated onto the international stage, as Interpol issues a summons for one of Uganda’s most prominent academics, Professor Badru Dungu Kateregga. At the heart of the case? A missing land title — and a marriage torn apart by allegations of betrayal, fraud, and abuse.

For over two decades, Prof. Kateregga and his wife, Jolly Kateregga, were seen as a power couple — co-founders of Kampala University and partners in both life and business. Their home in Buziga was a symbol of their success, love, and shared legacy.

But now, that same house is the epicenter of a bitter dispute.

Prof. Kateregga claims he has been unlawfully removed from ownership of the property. He alleges that Jolly manipulated the land title, erasing his name and seizing control. Interpol’s recent summons suggests the issue may extend beyond domestic squabbles — possibly involving document tampering and fraud with international implications.

Jolly Kateregga has not stayed silent. Once the university’s finance director and now chair of its Board of Trustees, she says the accusations against her are not only false — they’re heartbreaking.

“To be accused of stealing from the man I built a life with… it cuts deep,” she said in a recent statement. “I have nothing to hide. That home was built with love and sacrifice — by both of us.”

According to her, Prof. Kateregga’s claims are part of a smear campaign meant to discredit her and sideline her from the institution they built together.

The fallout has spilled into the courts, where accusations of assault, coercion, and forgery now threaten to overshadow their decades-long partnership.

Prof. Kateregga alleges he was physically attacked and forced out of the home. Jolly firmly denies these claims, and independent investigations have since questioned the truth behind some of the Professor’s more dramatic allegations, including claims of being held hostage for days.

Sources close to the family say the rift didn’t appear overnight — it’s the culmination of years of tension over university finances, leadership struggles, and shifting power dynamics.

Interpol’s summons has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s legal and academic communities. What was once thought to be a private, painful domestic issue has now escalated into a potentially criminal investigation with international reach.

Legal analysts believe the probe may involve suspected forgery of official land documents or attempts to sell or transfer property across borders without lawful authorization.

For now, the future of both the property — and the university — hangs in the balance. Will Prof. Kateregga respond to the Interpol summons? Can the university weather the storm of its founders’ feud? And most of all, is there any hope for reconciliation?

“This isn’t just about land. It’s about love lost, power struggles, and the pain of seeing a shared dream fall apart.”

Ugandans across the country are watching closely. Beyond the headlines, this story speaks to deeper issues: land insecurity, the fragility of trust in mar
