NRM Kicks Off Mayoral Primaries with Stern Warning Against Electoral Malpractice

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) began its Local Council V (LCV), municipal, and city mayoral primaries today, July 24, 2025. Ahead of the vote, NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi issued stern warnings to candidates and electoral officials against any malpractice, including bribery and tampering with results.

He confirmed that elections will use the official party register, and only registered members will be allowed to vote. Candidates were urged to deploy agents in all villages to safeguard their votes.

Dr. Odoi revealed that several registrars had already been arrested in districts like Iganga and Hoima over irregularities. He assured the public that the Electoral Commission is fully prepared and backed by layered oversight systems.

He reminded candidates who lost in recent parliamentary primaries that they have five days to file formal petitions and dismissed public demonstrations as ineffective.

Dr. Odoi also highlighted cases of interference by government officials and intimidation of registrars, stressing that the Electoral Commission remains independent and under control.

His message was clear: the NRM is committed to free and fair primaries, and anyone found violating the rules will face legal consequences.
