Nandutu Trial Postponed After Bereavement and Medical Delays in Karamoja Iron Sheets Scandal

The Anti-Corruption Court has postponed the trial of former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agness Nandutu, to June 12, 2025 due to the following reasons.

Personal loss: Nandutu’s father and sister both passed away recently.

Medical examination delays: A court-ordered assessment of her health has not yet been conducted due to administrative issues at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

She is accused of illegally receiving 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in Karamoja between June and July 2022.

1,617 iron sheets were recovered on her Mukono farm; 383 were unaccounted for.

The charges fall under Section 10(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act 2009 (dealing in suspect property).

  • Nandutu is one of three ministers implicated in the wider Karamoja iron sheets scandal, alongside Amos Lugoloobi and Mary Gorreti Kitutu.
  • Kitutu’s trial is currently on hold pending an appeal, and Lugoloobi’s case is also ongoing.
