Muhoozi’s PLU to Stage Protest at German Embassy Chief Mobilizer Sues Envoy Over ‘Undiplomatic Conduct’

The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a political movement led by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced plans to stage a protest at the German Embassy in Kampala on June 5, accusing German Ambassador H.E. Matthias Schauer of “undiplomatic conduct.”

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) Sunday morning, PLU Secretary General David Kabanda stated:

“The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) shall hold an energetic demonstration at the German Embassy on 5th June, 2025. Details will be availed in due course.

The protest announcement comes amid rising tensions between Uganda and several Western diplomatic missions, following what government officials describe as growing interference in Uganda’s internal affairs.

Relations with Germany deteriorated sharply after Uganda’s security services allegedly linked Ambassador Schauer to activities considered “subversive.” Sources say the ambassador raised concerns with senior Ugandan officials, including Gen. Salim Saleh, over threatening social media posts made by Gen. Muhoozi targeting Western envoys.

One of the most controversial posts by Muhoozi read:

“I, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, mwine Museveni, have the power in this country to EXPEL any Ambassador I do not like!”

Another tweet denounced a European Union delegation’s visit to opposition leader Bobi Wine, stating:

“This is an Abomination! @EUinUG is really playing with fire. Sawa!

PLU has become increasingly vocal and combative in defending Gen. Muhoozi’s political stance and nationalist rhetoric. Earlier this year, the group protested against Parliament after lawmakers criticized Muhoozi for ignoring a summons.

It also threatened action against the Kenyan High Commission after a Kenyan newspaper branded Muhoozi a “four-star brat.”

While PLU has not revealed the full list of demands for the June 5 protest, insiders claim the group seeks Ambassador Schauer’s expulsion and for him to be declared persona non grata.

In a new twist, PLU’s chief mobilizer has filed a lawsuit against Ambassador Schauer, accusing him of engaging in activities that violate diplomatic norms under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The legal petition reportedly includes claims of meddling in Uganda’s political processes and making statements that undermine Uganda’s sovereignty.

As of now, the German Embassy has not issued an official response to either the accusations or the planned protest.
