Muhoozi Promotes Senior UPDF Officers in Strategic Military Reshuffle

General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces, has promoted three senior officers in a reshuffle aimed at strengthening Uganda’s military leadership both at home and abroad.

Major General Francis Okello, former Commandant of the National Defence College, was promoted to Lieutenant General. Widely respected for his leadership in Somalia and strategic contributions to the UPDF, Okello’s promotion reflects his deep experience and steady hand.

Colonel Godfrey Karugaba, who recently served as Uganda’s Defence Attaché to the UK, was elevated to Brigadier General. Known for his diplomatic skill, Karugaba has played a key role in shaping Uganda’s defence relations internationally.

Brigadier General Paddy Ankunda, a familiar face and former army spokesperson, was appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, in charge of International Affairs. His promotion signals a greater emphasis on intelligence and global engagement within UPDF leadership.
