Karim Mwase, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Lira, has been murdered in a suspected ambush along the Iganga-Bugiri Highway. His body was discovered in Nakalama Sub-county, raising alarm and prompting a police investigation.
Preliminary reports suggest that unknown assailants intercepted Mwase as he was returning from a public function in Bugweri District on Sunday. Authorities believe he was attacked en route to Iganga Town.
According to Iganga Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kato Dauda, Mwase’s body was found inside his vehicle, abandoned by the roadside. Police suspect he was strangled before the assailants fled the scene.
The body has been taken to Iganga General Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, detectives have launched a full investigation, reconstructing the crime scene and collecting potential evidence to aid in identifying the perpetrators.
