LAKE:FACTS A BOUT THE KABAKA’S LAKE.

The kabaka’s Lake is the ma made Lake that was constructed in 1880 . It is located in Ndeeba between Nabunya road and Ring road a few Kilometres from Kampala city.

It was constructed under the order of Kabaka Mwanga ii who wanted it mainly as the escape corridor during the British armed conflicts.

It is a largest man made lake in Uganda that is1.8square Kilometres and approximately 200 feet depth and it said to be Africa’s excavated lake.

During its Construction 52 Tribes of Buganda co operated and agreed to construct the Kabaka’s Lake as a sign of respect during Ssekabaka Mwanga,s regime between the 1885 and 1888 .

Kabaka Mwanga ii had some other reasons for the construction of the Lake that is; connecting the channel to Lake Victoria for him to enjoy fishing and swimming, he also wanted the Lake to act as a channel to access another built palace in Mulungo hill that is close Lake Victoria that was constructed by his father Mutesa before his death.

Since the Kabaka was known for his notorious, aggressiveness,, pride and ruthless holocaust behaviour at the beginning of the construction the prince, the princess and the chief refused to take part in the construction which annoyed the Kabaka and decide to dig it alone .

Later the construction was abruptly interrupted and stopped before it could connect to Munyonyi due t the Religius wars that rose in Buganda which made the Lake construction incomplete.

Currently the lake is used by the population around the area for domestic work like irrigation and it is also a tourist attraction
