IS KYAGULANYI’S PRESIDENCY AT RISK? The Power Struggle.

Greater Masaka plays a crucial role in deciding the parliamentary affairs of the nation as the power of the central region lies most in Masaka. Many members of NUP hail from Masaka and it is rather unfortunate that Kyagulanyi does not have control over some of them. This is why individuals like Abed Bwanika stand up to oppose Kyagulanyi, as he has run for the Presidential post three times, unlike Bobi Wine. Some of the members In NUP believe they are of a higher caliber and have more experience than him.

The current internal conflicts with in NUP clearly show that most of its members joined the party to secure their positions in Parliament. As a result, those who used to support Kyagulanyi no longer listen to him as before. NUP is faltering due to extreme greed for money, for instance it is alleged that MP Hillary Kiyaga also known as Hilderman, took a loan of 100Million from the Party without informing Kyagulanyi causing chaos with in the party under the guise of claiming copyrights. Money issues also led to the in-activeness of Kazibwe Bashir and it is also alleged that the conflicts between the Deputy President of NUP and the President Kyagulanyi are also stemming from financial matters.

The current political landscape in Uganda is characterized by a standoff between the National Unity platform and the Electoral Commission.Despite claims by NUP leader Mpuuga that he has provided reasons for their refusal to comply with the regulations set by the Electoral Commission, they have failed to respond adequately.

One of the main points of contention is the requirement for political parties to present their party structures as mandated by the law governing political parties. NUP has been unwilling to adhere to this regulation as it would require them to conduct delegates confrences and have representatives from the lowest posts within the party. This reluctance to comply with the low suggests that NUP is trying to avoid certain responsibilities and obligations that come wit being a registered political party.

The ongoing dispute within NUP also highlights unresolved issues stemming from the Kibalama effect, specifically the challenge to NUP ownership by Kagombe. The fact that Kibalama and his supporters are still vocal and resistant to any attempts to remove them indicates that there are deep-seated tensions with in the party that need to be addressed.

Interestingly, the political dynamics within NUP bear a resemblance to those within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), suggesting that there may be underlying factors at play that go beyond just the legal requirements for political parties. It is clear that there is more to this story than what meets the eye, and the situation is likely to become clearer as more information is revealed.
