The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially endorsed Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi as its presidential flag bearer for the upcoming 2026 general elections. The announcement was made during a pivotal National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.
This decision marks a significant moment in the party’s political trajectory as it prepares for a competitive race in 2026. Mafabi, a seasoned politician and long-serving Member of Parliament for Budadiri West, is widely known for his vocal and unwavering stance on issues of governance, transparency, and accountability. He previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, earning respect across political divides for his principled leadership.
His endorsement follows the decision by outgoing party president, Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat, to step down and not seek the party’s nomination. Amuriat, who led the FDC in the 2021 elections, thanked party members for their support over the years and pledged his full backing for Mafabi in the 2026 campaign.
Speaking shortly after the announcement, Nandala Mafabi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and vowed to revitalize the party’s grassroots structures and strengthen its nationwide appeal. “The time has come to renew our commitment to the Ugandan people. We must build a nation that works for all — not just a privileged few,” he said.
The NEC meeting, attended by top party officials and regional representatives, concluded with a unified call for party cohesion and nationwide mobilization in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.
Mafabi’s endorsement sets the stage for what promises to be a defining chapter for the FDC and its supporters, as they aim to present a formidable challenge to the ruling establishment.
