Bobi Wine Launches Fundraiser as NUP Faces Cash Crunch Ahead of 2026

NUP President Bobi Wine has admitted his party is struggling financially and falling behind the ruling NRM in preparations for the 2026 elections.

Speaking on Monday, Bobi Wine revealed the party has only Shs 20 million in its accounts—barely enough to cover his own presidential nomination fee.

“Our accounts are dry, and yet Museveni already has billboards up. I also need to raise the level,” he said.

The financial blow follows the new Political Parties and Organisations (Amendment) Act, 2025, which ties government funding to parties that participate in IPOD and adhere to democratic norms.

NUP, which refuses to join IPOD, risks losing over Shs 3.1 billion in annual public funding.

“This law targets us because we refused to sit with Museveni,” Bobi Wine added.

To close the gap, NUP has launched a fundraising campaign led by Hon. Ronald Balimwezo and Fatumah Kassim, calling on supporters to contribute towards the 2026 elections.
