The Ugandan music industry has faced its share of tragedies, including the untimely deaths of singers Cornelius Oloya (Master Blaster) and Galiwango (Dizzy Nuts).
Master Blaster’s Shocking Murder
In 2015, Master Blaster was brutally shot in broad daylight at Eden Service Park in Bwaise, following a misunderstanding with Sudanese individuals. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with citizens protesting against the mistreatment of Ugandans by armed Sudanese.
Police Struggle to Contain the Situation
As tensions escalated, the police struggled to maintain order. In a surprising move, they enlisted the help of then-ghetto pop star-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (H.E. Bobi Wine) to calm the crowd. Bobi Wine, a friend of Master Blaster’s, had spent time with him just a day before his death.
Bobi Wine’s Role in Master Blaster’s Burial
Bobi Wine’s mission was to escort Master Blaster’s body to his ancestral home in Kitgum. However, insiders reveal that upon reaching Matugga in Wakiso district, Bobi Wine confirmed the police were safe and changed course, returning to Kampala and leaving the burial procession to continue without him.
Dizzy Nuts’ Tragic Accident
Two years later, in 2017, Dizzy Nuts met a tragic end when he was knocked down by a car in Kireka, his home base.
Remembering Uganda’s Fallen Music Stars
The music industry continues to mourn the loss of these talented artists, whose contributions to Ugandan music will never be forgotten.
